Nicorette Quickmist (nicotine) is a nicotine replacement therapy, or NRT, used to help smokers quit by curbing cravings and other symptoms of nicotine withdrawal. Though less common, smokers also buy Nicorette Quickmist for use when temporarily unable to smoke. Either way this product alleviates the physical symptoms of nicotine withdrawal, including:

  • Cravings
  • Irritability
  • Anxiety
  • Mood swings
  • Headache
  • Sweating
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Increased appetite
  • Restlessness

While Nicorette Quickmist works very well at alleviating the physical aspects of withdrawal, it is somewhat less effective at addressing the psychological aspects. Patients who buy Nicorette Quickmist to stop smoking should be resolved to quit; the product is unlikely to work successfully if the smoker is not determined to do so. It may, however, help cut down on the number of cigarettes, which is also helpful.

Product Overview

Nicorette Quickmist consists of a vial with a built-in spray nozzle at top. Each vial contains at least 150 sprays; each spray contains nicotine which is absorbed into the bloodstream through the mouth. The maximum daily use consists of 64 sprays per day, but most smokers use considerably less.

The Quickmist vial is small enough to carry discreetly in a pocket or purse, ideal for use on the go. It works quickly, alleviating cravings and other symptoms in about 60 seconds.

Some smokers utilize multiple NRT products; others can be browsed here. Patients can buy Nicorette Quickmist for use on the go while utilizing other products, such as Nicorette Inhalator---which produces vapor but satisfies patient need to do something with the mouth and hands---for more relaxed settings. Note that while using multiple NRT products is relatively common, some attention will need to be paid to overall nicotine intake.

Using Quickmist

Each vial of Nicorette Quickmist will need to be primed before first use and if it hasn't been used for several days. Pointing the nozzle away from the face, press down on the nozzle several times until a fine mist appears. It's now ready to go.

To administer the spray:

  • Hold the vial upright with the spray nozzle very close to the mouth.
  • Depress the nozzle to administer a spray, avoiding the lips.
  • To keep the spray in the mouth, do not inhale while spraying.
  • Keep from swallowing for several seconds after administration, to allow the nicotine to absorb.

Cravings should be significantly diminished after a spray. If a single spray is not enough, a second may be administered. Manufacturer's dosage instructions:

  • Do not exceed 2 sprays at a time.
  • Do not exceed 4 sprays in 60 minutes.
  • Do not exceed 64 sprays in one day.

Duration of use is variable, and can extend for months or even---with sporadic use---years if needed to reduce cravings. It partly depends on if the smoker buys Nicorette Quickmist to quit entirely or to slowly reduce daily cigarette intake. While quitting is ideal, fewer cigarettes is still good.
